The card
DaVinci’s hand study from Lady with Ermine holds an ancient Norwegian sword and is crowned by the golden Wreath of Thrace — a crown smuggled out of Sofia, Bulgaria and into the United States, but eventually found its way back to the city from whence it came.
The Ace of Swords is the beginning of the mind and first thought. It is the realization that the transition of thought into physical form will forever be a powerful moment. This card brings to mind themes from three other Major Arcana cards in the tarot deck — the “will to action” of The Magician, the interplay of both above and below in The Tower, and the unconstrained joy of The World. You will also find elements of nature including Bella Donna, poppies, and blackberries which capture modern interpretations of the Ace of Swords while still being rooted in Marseille symbolism.
