Ace of Wands

Emergence in the creative spark

The card

The Ace of Wands is represented by a Greek wand with a pine cone resting atop it. The pine cone historically symbolizes knowledge, intuition, and direct connection to the spirit world. Like the “Putti” in the Suit of Cups, it is a transitional object between both heaven and earth. It is also representative of the human pineal gland, which is thought to be the physiological center of spiritual practice in humans. Nature’s offerings, like the pine cone, are often considered a bridge between this world and the next, but it is also a central tenet of the Suit of Wands in the tarot.

What is newly arriving through desire, intuition, vitality, and expression?

The archetype in motion

A new psychic energy enters awareness before it has been tested or given durable form. Here it moves through desire, intuition, vitality, and expression. Its gift becomes available when the reader can hold both its conscious expression and the less comfortable possibility carried in its shadow.
