What This Card Means
The first influence of love — perfect hope and optimism making its way into physical reality. The cup becomes a baptismal font: a commitment to communion and a springing forth into the next world.
The Archetype
A Byzantine chalice, silver and centuries old, carries a plea for protection inscribed by someone who needed it enough to put it in writing. Jung understood the beginning of real feeling as a kind of constellation — something dormant suddenly activating, whole and undefended, before the mind has had time to build any guardrails around it.
