The card
The old cartomantic manuals associate the Eight of Hearts with courtship and friendship; here that omen is treated as psychological weather, not a verdict. Roman sculpture gives private feeling a public body: desire, kinship, grief, and dignity arranged beneath the long gaze of empire. Eight turns repetition into capacity. It asks for technique, stamina, and a relationship with consequence. Courtship and friendship share the card because both depend on curiosity surviving the first flattering image. Hearts belong to Eros in the broad sense of relatedness. Their shadow is projection—the beloved, family, or audience forced to carry an unlived part of the self. The ego is useful here when it becomes an instrument of the larger Self rather than a tiny executive claiming authorship of the whole enterprise. Momentum is glamorous until it needs maintenance.
