Fortune
The Turning Wheel
The card
Like The Fool, The Hierophant, and Justice, the wheel reminds us of the immutable and invisible laws that rule our physical universe.
The Antikythera mechanism slowly charts her course from the helm of a ship to the bottom of the sea, all the while tracking the motion of our galaxy and our place within it. This illustrates that which lies beyond the control of those who live under the wheel and requires an element of surrender.
The minotaur, eagle, and monkey power this wheel alongside the woman raising a chalice to the heavens. The chalice represents life —a cup that is filled to be emptied and so we celebrate brilliance to suffer folly.
The Fortune card is a call to trust in the process. Instead of trying to control that which is beyond your grasp, learn to surrender and let yourself experience any emotions as they arise. Celebrate the good that comes your way and mourn the end of that which no longer serves you. Know that the wheel continues to turn and with it the seasons of life. Choose to adapt and believe that all is working together for your ultimate growth, healing, and purpose.
What changes when you trust the turning without abandoning your agency?

The archetype in motion
The ego encounters the larger pattern of change that it cannot command. Its shadow is passivity disguised as surrender. Integration accepts what cannot be controlled while remaining responsible for the choices still available.
